Based on its chemical composition, the medicinal water of Harkány belongs to the group of sulphuric medicinal waters. Mineral salts, ions, carbonyl-sulphide, hydrogen sulphide, sulphate, bromine, fluoride and other materials enrich the medicinal water of Harkány and make it medicinal water from medical aspect.
Its medical effect comes from the sulphur with a valence of 2 forming carbonyl sulphide (COS), which is under pressure in the form of gas, in dissolved state in water. When breaking up, the medicinal water of Harkány starts decomposing when it is released from pressure, and the hydrogen sulphide gas is released. This results in the characteristic smell of the medicinal water of Harkány.
The gas bubbles containing the elementary sulphur released of the medicinal water of Harkány can be seen well even in the medicinal pools.
The components of the medicinal water of Harkány are absorbed both in the skin and via breathing. This active absorption is 150 times more than the composites of sulphur with valence of 4 (sulphates). This makes the medicinal water of Harkány special.
What is the medicinal water of Harkány good for?

Medicinal water drinking cure.
The medicinal water of Harkány can be used orally in itself in the form of drinking cure or supplementing external treatments with medicinal water; in the latter case, the minerals and the sulphur are absorbed by the body owing to the drinking cure, which can even accelerate healing. Thanks to its composition, the medicinal water of Harkány improves digestion, increases metabolism, reduces blood pressure and glucose level, is integrated into the cartilages, prevents arteriosclerosis and has aorta dilating effect, too. These beneficiary effects can be experienced during the drinking cure as well.
The application of medicinal waters as drinking cure has its rules: these cures are counter-indicated for patients with tumour diseases and the acute state of all the illnesses of organs and articulations. You should consult your doctor regarding the application of the cure!
